Are you using nourishing oils for skin care?

Several years ago I began to experiment with using nourishing oils for skin care instead of buying products that included these oils in a mix of ingredients. I liked the idea of becoming familiar with these oils, and how my skin responded to them.

I found them nourishing, but, well, oily. They were sticky and hard to spread onto my skin.

I began to research ways to use oils in a form that is un-spillable and more absorbable, yet a pure oil – without commercial additives.

To turn the oils into a solid form takes an emulsion. Because there are bee hives at Iowana Farm, we have access to honey and bees wax. It turned out that beeswax blends well with nourishing oils.

The hand mixing techniques I use keep the unguent texture just right, in that it is neither too runny or too hard and stiff. The oil becomes a light cream, which spreads easily on my skin. It is not absorbed instantly. But it is not long before my skin feels a bit stronger to the touch, and is not oily on the surface.

I scrape out a bit of unguent with the outer part of my fingernail or a very small spoon. Then I rub it into the tips of my fingers. When it is warm and distributed, I gently dab and pat my skin to place the oil.  I lightly rub in circles to work it into may face or into an elbow or heel.

Organic Rosemary Oil Extract – keeps oil fresh

I use Castor oil on my eyebrows, my face (not every day or it will clog pores,) on acne blemishes and scars. Any place where there is abrasion damage or dryness. Where I detect roughness or thinness that needs replenishment.

Although there is Vitamin E in Castor oil, I add a few extra drops of organic Vitamin E oil to this unguent because it is so beneficial.
